banjo and the monkey girl

banjo and the monkey girl

living in their different world

she marks time with strokes and paddles

his mind has gone astray

in the background there is a melody

the  lyrics are changing every day

sometimes she will run for cover

he’s always dressed for different weather

perfect pearls are left uncounted

he says the end is yet unsung

she passes noon by sailing backwards

hands upraised to frame the sun

she’s seen the world from every angle

say’s the clouds are beautiful  when gray

banjo waits practiced and thoughtful

strumming at orion’s belt

in his hands a broken chalice

that’s become a butterfly

they pass a battered tambourine

to those that stand behind them

one trick is enough to keep them

living in their different world

“it’s not strange anymore,” she says

“i  love it, it’s good”.

a songbird mimics her indifference

he shifts his thoughts into the future

its not a day for dwelling in the past

the sun  behind the clouds will reappear

there is nothing more to say

she is right of course he argues

ragged in the heat

she smiles her perfect smile at him

renewed by his defeat

it’s another day in paradise for

banjo and the monkey girl

time flies by unnoticed

when you’re having fun

or living in a different world
