amen…amen…amen…amen

Posted: February 11, 2012 in poetry

you showed me what life was for

that love was just a metaphor

not everything that pierced your heart would kill you

you pulled me back off of the ledge

when i told  i could fly

you hedged your bets

hoping what i’d seen wasn’t contagious

amen….amen….amen…..amen

you warned me  that you’d been around

nothing i hadn’t seen before

i saw your boots were tired and torn

cast aside like flotsam on the water

i suspected what was left unsaid

love had reared it’s level head

the desert in my heart had  bloomed

a rain of tears washed us clean

once dessicated shoots thrust to life  inside you

amen…amen…amen…amen

oh princess from a fallen star

i crept along your garden wall

my dagger leapt from my hand and ran you through

you cried out, ‘it must be love’

and i prayed to the lord above

for the wisdom and the fire

to see the future

amen….amen….amen….amen

we entered the new world hand in hand

children in a foreign land

like innocents without the knowledge to be sure

empty handed without a carriage

i had no anchor

so i grew wings

like some miracle had come to hand

to guide us to the golden ring

you blew fire into the air

the temple of our love loomed in the distance

an uncrowned king awaited our obeisance

amen… amen…. amen…. amen

you showed me what life was for

and love was just a metaphor

not everything that pierced your heart would kill you

don’t fear the thief on the garden wall

a castle isn’t fit for all

when broken dreams and marble stairs

block your pathway to the stars

the eyes of love can see right through you.

amen…amen…amen…amem

to be cont’d
